Can kittens (and cats) get hiccups? The answer to that question is -- yes. After I rescued four two-week-old kittens who were orphaned when their mother was killed, I became the 'momma cat' and started feeding them kitten formula with a syringe. When I took the kittens to the vet clinic for a checkup, the vet asked me if they had gotten hiccups yet. At that point, they had never shown any signs of it. 'No, they haven't had hiccups,' I said. 'They will,' the vet said with a smile. 'It happens sometimes when they eat too fast.' 'Should I do anything to help them if they get the hiccups?' I asked, wondering what in the world I could do for kitten hiccups. Tell the kittens to hold their breath? That's what works for me. 'You don't have to do anything,' the vet said. 'They'll go away on their own.' Not long after that -- sure enough, the kittens got hiccups. And sure enough, after a while, the hiccups went away. That was more than 13 years ago. I still have the 'kittens' (three of them, anyway; one died in October 2004 from chronic renal failure). And even today, as adult cats, they will occasionally get the hiccups. The hiccups last for a half a minute or a minute and then that's the end of it. So -- if your kitten (or cat) develops hiccups, don't worry about it. The hiccups will go away sooner or later.

It has made the training of our new dog so much easier than I could possibly expect!I live on a small farm in Victoria Australia and am currently in the process of training our new dog 'Toby'(a border collie). I think we maybe have a head start as he is quite smart and soft natured but the techniques in you book work a treat and I find I hardly have to do anything to maintain a healthy working … 2. Some Advanced Dog Training Points you should know about CONDITIONING YOUR DOG Akeisha wrote to me with some very good questions. I’ve included her letter (and my responses) below:[Akeisha] Hi its Akeisha again. I do see what you mean if it is on all the time the dog will soon forget it is on and then will behave regardless. Ok, so the dog never wears a buckle collar again? This is what irks me. I want to be able to control the dog regardless of what collar is on not just the pinch or it could be no collar at all and the dog still behaves. What if the owner for some reason… 3. Tropical Aquarium Tropical Aquariums are for keeping tropical fish, but you can have two different types of fish, saltwater or freshwater. Saltwater fish obviously needs saltwater and the salt needs to be a regulated level along with the PH and temperature. Freshwater fish need to have fresh purified water, both of these set ups need the good bacteria that helps to keep the aquariums clean. Tropical aquariums that contain saltwater are only for saltwater fish. If you put a freshwater fish in this tank it will die… 4. No Fruit? By Christi Upson For those that feed the raw diet to your pets and claim that they do not need vegetables and fruits in their diets, I beg to differ. Let's examine the actual "diet" of the wild canines and felines. They do, indeed, hunt their meat "on the hoof," as it were, but they do not, I suspect, empty the stomach contents of their prey, nor the bowels of their prey, before consuming it. At least, not entirely. That is one of their sources of vegetable matter. You think they don't need it? Have … |
