“Mom, can we get a puppy?” Who hasn’t heard that line before? The kids think it’s time for an addition to the family, but you know you don’t have time for a family pet.

We’ve got the perfect solution to make everyone happy!! Hermit Crabs!!

Now before you start to panic because you just heard the word “crab”, just listen! They’re not that bad. Trust me, I’ve had a few and after a while they were definitely part of our family.

Let me tell you why you should be convincing your kids to get a hermit crab:

1. They don’t bark, chirp or meow
2. They won’t pee on your carpeting
3. You don’t have to train them
4. They won’t climb up your screens or run away
5. They’re very easy to care for
6. Your kids will love them more than a puppy!!

Hermit crabs do not need attention every day or even need to be feed everyday….that’s the best reason already! Hermit crabs live in smaller cages and stay in side of a shell. They eat hermit crab pellets and drink water from a sponge.

Believe it or not, hermit crabs are even FUN!! Because they live inside their shells, you can buy shells for your kids to decorate how they want and then the shells are placed inside the cage for the hermit crab to switch shells and live inside the painted ones! It’s so neat and your kids will be so thrilled.

Give hermit crabs a chance…

2. Chronic Ear Infections in Dogs By Shawn Messonnier
Chronic ear infections are among the most commonly seen disorders in pets. Often they occur in certain breeds, including spaniels and retrievers. I regularly consult with owners who have treated their pets for years with various medications. The ears improve during treatment, but quickly relapse once treatment stops. With time the treatment ceases to work since the bacteria and yeasts which cause the infections have built up resistance to the drugs. It’s very important to determine the cause o…

3. You Should Teach Your Puppy Proper Chewing Behavior By Ian White
As much as you may love your cute, new puppy, if she chews on everything in sight--including you--she will not be cute to you for very long. Puppies that are left to their own devices can destroy a home quickly. Just as training is required to housebreak your little fur ball, training is also necessary to teach them appropriate chewing behaviors. Many believe the longer a pup is allowed to stay with her mother and siblings, the better she will behave. It seems that puppies younger than eight we…

4. Why Adopt a Pet?
A cat was run over on my busy street this weekend. It wasn’t my pet but it hurt just as much as if it was. This animal came into our lives when we returned from walking in the park with our 3 yr. old son. A lady who lives across the street was trying to keep it from running out into the road so I took it upon myself to carry it back to our garage where we gave it food, water and friendship for a few days. This cat was female and looked to be only 6 months old; it was also very skinny and hungry…
